EXECUTIVE COMPENSATION PLANS

A nonqualified plan is a contractual agreement between an employer and certain key executives to pay income, at some future date, for services performed currently.  Generally, the employer makes an unsecured and unfunded promise to pay.  Although a nonqualified plan is generally seen in an employer/employee context, it can also be used in an employer/independent contractor situation.
